Luther: "Otherwise I am nothing, even if I am the pope."

But it has been demonstrated that the descendants must have the same spirit, the same faith and promise. Otherwise they are not children of God. I must have faith and hold fast to the confession which Peter made. Otherwise I am nothing, even if I am the pope. Thus the church has diverse gifts; but the same faith, hope, and love firmly bind together all believers in Christ, the one Head.
