"Resist Sin Indeed" - Cantata for the Third Sunday in Lent (Oculi)

The text of this cantata is by the court librarian Georg Christian Lehms. In his collection of 1711 it was assigned to the Third Sunday in Lent. There is no general agreement as to the date of the origin of Bach's musical score, though it probably comes from Bach's time in Weimar (1708-1717).

See "The Cantatas of J.S. Bach" by Alfred Duerer, p. 254. The work is a serious warning to resist sin, and as such, confronts us with our depravity. Lord Christ have mercy.

This video is delightful in that the English translation is provided along with the German text. If memory serves me, the Weimar castle chapel was destroyed by fire after Bach's time.
